The SDG Center Series gathers insights from global leaders to critically examine the intersection of sustainable development and international governance across climate, trade, education, and innovation. Speakers include Irina Bokova, Former Director-General of UNESCO; Janos Pasztor, Former UN Assistant Secretary-General for Climate Change; Olav Kjørven, Former UNDP Director for Public Policy; Pascal Lamy, Former Director-General of the World Trade Organization; and Erik Solheim, Former Executive Director of UNEP.

In this course, Janos Pasztor explores two key pillars of the global climate response: technological solutions and governance frameworks. He examines sustainable and corrective technologies like carbon dioxide removal and solar radiation modification, and analyzes the roles of international treaties, UN bodies, and non-state actors. The course highlights the geopolitical challenges facing effective climate cooperation.

Janos Pasztor, former UN Assistant Secretary-General for Climate Change, offers a comprehensive view of the climate crisis, linking it to sustainable development and the SDGs. He highlights key challenges like rising temperatures and tipping points, and calls for urgent action through mitigation, adaptation, carbon removal, and solar radiation modification, all within a framework of global cooperation.

In this lecture, Erik Solheim examines global environmental governance, noting both successes like the Montreal Protocol and shortcomings in climate agreements.
